Stanley 1996 Print

Painters often belong to a school or category. But Stanley Spencer, England's great artist was unique - in art as in life. Despite a happy and spiritual marriage to his wife Hilda, he craved the same sexual freedom in his private life as expressed in his art. "Why can't I have two wives if that's what I need?"
