The Prince's Play 1996 Print

Victor Hugo's Le Roi s'amuse was banned from the French stage after only one performance. Tony Harrison's new version translates the action to Victorian London, to tell a tale of sexual intrigue and sensational incident. Hugo's hunchback court jester becomes a music hall comedian who avenges himself on his protector, the Prince of Wales, for a wrong done to his beloved daughter.
