Set during the Thirty Years' War, Mother Courage tells the story of an itinerant pedlar who loses her three children to the conflict. Told with a wry humour, looking at the best and worst in human nature, Brecht's picture of the consequences of this brutal European war has a poignant relevance to world events today.
